The Dark Side of the Moon (50 Years Later)

Pink Floyd’s 1973 release, The Dark Side of the Moon, is undeniably one of the most important albums ever and continues to influence and inspire people after so long. This year marks its 50th anniversary so I figured I should talk about what makes this album so special.
The most obvious thing to mention is how iconic the artwork is. Something as subtle as a refracting prism is easily recognized by the general populous as the illustrious Pink Floyd album. You could go to any clothing store and probably find this art on at least ten different T-shirts. The Dark Side of the Moon’s cover is likely the most recognizable image ever.
Along with the album’s art, its sound is arguably just as timeless. This is likely to do with the album's minimalistic and psychedelic soundscape that has yet to be replicated. Pink Floyd essentially created the entire sub-genre of prog rock and made sure that nobody could do it like them. 50 years later the album still sounds as organic as it did in 1973. The Dark Side of the Moon is the epitome of the saying “You can’t beat the classics”.
In my personal opinion, The Dark Side of the Moon is and always will be one of the best albums ever. There is a reason it has maintained its popularity over the years. Even if you don’t like it, you can't deny its greatness.
