Singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers' sophomore album, Punisher, is a heartfelt piece about her struggle to find meaning in her existence. Bridgers is a master at capturing how it feels to not know your place on Earth with her bittersweet lyricism and passionate vocals.
This record does a phenomenal job of putting you in the songs themselves. Bridgers' storytelling combined with the background makes it easy for the listener to get sucked into each track. One track in particular, Moon Song, tells us a story about her relationship from the second person as if she is talking directly to us, the listeners. Great storytelling is something I desperately look for in an album, and Phoebe Bridgers pulls it off perfectly.
Although every track on Punisher is phenomenal in every aspect, there is one track in particular that stands out to me. I Know The End is about embracing that there is an end to everything. The track starts off soft with Bridgers reminiscing about a recent breakup, and then it shifts into a loud, dramatic sound as she accepts her losses. The track then closes with her repeating the phrase "The end is here" which gives the track an apocalyptic tone, while still alluding to her acceptance of fate. I absolutely love the end-of-the-world metaphors and apocalyptic tone she uses on this track in order to fit with the album's topic of existentialism. To me, this track is the perfect example of how talented Phoebe Bridgers is, not just as an artist, but as a poet.
In conclusion, Phoebe Bridgers is awesome. 9/10.
