Let's Start Here - Lil Yachty (REVIEW)

Lil Yachty is a Michigan rapper who has been quite well known ever since his breakout in 2016’s “Soundcloud Era” of hip-hop music. Earlier this year, he released his new record “Let’s Start Here” which shocked fans across their first listen.

“Let's Start Here” is not Yachty’s usual yearly hip-hop release. Instead, it’s a psych-rock album that takes great inspiration from Pink Floyd’s 70s classic “The Dark Side of the Moon.” Yachty even said in an interview with Highsnobiety this year “I wanted to make my Dark Side of the Moon” so it makes sense. Is it on the same level as The Dark Side of the Moon though? Not quite.

However, it is some great psych-rock that definitely has charisma to it. I really enjoy what Yachty does on this record, utilizing his autotune made his vocals pop so much more and takes the genre to a whole different level.

There is only one problem that I noticed in this project. A few of the tracks, such as “sAy sOMETHING” or “sHouLd i B?” feel as if they are only on the record to make it longer. They are pretty decent tracks, but I’m not a big fan of filler.

Overall it's a cool little out-of-the-box project from Yachty, I hope to see him do more stuff like this in the future. Lil Boat is pretty good at rock music. 7/10.
