1000 gecs is, to say the least, a very unique sound. It combines dubstep with hyperpop to create a wild and exciting energy. That being said, it doesn't do anything new, but it still sounds refreshing enough to captivate its audience. Additionally, the duo uses high-pitched autotune to adjust to the wild and wacky production style that each track inhabits.
Lyrically, 1000 gecs is lacking. I know that it isn't trying to be a critically acclaimed masterpiece or anything, but they could've at least added some engaging lyrics instead of just talking about money and marijuana. I won't dwell on the lyrics too much because this record is still a ton of fun, but it's something I hope they improve on in the future.
While the album makes it clear that it is not meant to be taken seriously, there are moments on it where I just can't fathom how someone may find it enjoyable. In the track 800 db cloud, Laura Les repeatedly screams out unintelligible words in a low metal-like growl. This is probably my least favorite moment on the album as I am not a fan of metal music whatsoever. However, there are a lot more pros than cons for me so I try to look past it.
To put it simply, 1000 gecs sounds as if gen-z was a music genre. This can be a good or bad thing depending on who you are. For me, the good and the bad seem to outweigh each other on this record, as there are some intolerable moments, but also some really enjoyable ones too.
I gec, you gec, we all gec. 6/10.
